I was born in London in 1990. I currently live and work in Leeds.
For the past few years my work has focussed primarily on portraiture, from original large-scale drawings to printed adaptations. Each portrait offers a stark exploration of the subject using one simple tool – a biro. Through furious working and reworking of areas of light and dark, patterns develop and emerge to reveal complex and permanent images.
Texture and repetition is key to my work and the mood of each piece is only felt when the portrait comes to an end. Throughout this process the work changes constantly, becoming increasingly complex as each layer of biro entwines with the last. From a distance the work appears simple and clear cut but as one looks closer, each portrait takes on a new life of lines and contours. With every over-sized face peering out of the paper, each offers a permanent confrontation.
